  • Body clearing

Hi, this is my problem at the moment.
sometimes my body clears perfectly when I let my arms fall, but sometimes my body doesn’t.
I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong, is it my backswing position?
    thanks 😁

    Hi Julie

glad to see you back on the forum .. I've got a couple thoughts on this . and I think that this 10th Anniversary video on the subject from the Chairman might be a good place for you to start.

what's great about this - is that it relates action to target as opposed to trying to hit a backswing position ..

so working 'through' and what that would be like vs. losing or interrupting the action

the arms or ACU falls in the frame of reference of the body going to 'get the ground' and clearing to make room for the Arms to fall..

maybe a 'step drill' to get the clear sense of reanchoring your swing and body rotation..

    all the best

Thanks Kid_fullerene.😁 I will re watch that video.
How is your golf and covid going? We are lucky to still be playing, only two can play at a time, separate buggies, and the flag must stay in, plus the bunkers are gur.

        Hi Julie

thanks for giving it a look - I'm going to grab a couple more videos that might help you build a more useful understanding of 'clearing' .. NY State has probably the single largest concentration of Covid cases in the world right now - so it's a little scary around here. Most of them are in New York City which is several hours from me - but we've been on lockdown for several weeks. They just opened the golf courses again yesterday - with similar restrictions and the bonus of very cold weather as well! I'm hoping to hit a few shots today.. but the ground is pretty muddy! Hope all is well with you and yours k_f

      Hi Julie

Here's a couple more that might contribute in a good way

this one is more recent - and works with a couple of very easy analogies .. the 'skipping the stone and facing the pond' a particular favorite.. clearing action into a balanced finish that is very instinctive and intuitive

and the above view - which gives you an important reference frame at about 2 minutes.. you can see the shoulders relative to the clear(ing) lower body and the ACU dropping into that space

beyond the mechanics.. maybe a 2 ball or 2 coin drill to have you gather both objects might help you light up your imagination a little .. maybe doing that drill with a clear target and intermediate point will give you some additional optics and visual reference to how the ball is gathered as you allow the club to lag into a releasing action ..

my sense is that you're not so much 'ball bound' or 'action averse' but likely have got your ball position a little forward or made a stance or grip change over time and have kind of found some stuff to accommodate that subtle change and now are a bit stuck..

usually what happens is that it starts a bit like a timing change .. and it works well enough . but over time you end up having to add power somehow to keep it working .. until one day it just sort of stops working ..

hope these suggestions give you a potential place to look ..

      all the best

Hi there! It sounds like you're experiencing some inconsistency with your golf swing. The fact that your body clears perfectly at times when you let your arms fall suggests that there might be a potential issue with your backswing position. It's difficult to pinpoint the exact problem without observing your swing, but it could be related to your body alignment, weight distribution, or sequencing of movements. I would recommend seeking guidance from a golf instructor or coach who can analyze your swing in person. They'll be able to provide specific feedback and help you make the necessary adjustments to improve your consistency. Keep practicing and don't get discouraged. With the right guidance and practice, you'll be able to iron out any kinks in your swing. Good luck and enjoy your golfing!
